SAP BASIS Consultant HANA (6?8 Years)

Role Summary

We?re looking for an experienced SAP BASIS Consultant (HANA focus) to own the availability, performance, security, and lifecycle management of SAP landscapes across on-prem and/or cloud environments. The ideal candidate has hands-on expertise in SAP HANA administration, S/4HANA/BW/4HANA systems, SAP NetWeaver stack, transports, upgrades, migrations, and high-availability/DR, with strong troubleshooting across app, DB, OS, network layers.

Key Responsibilities

• Landscape Administration: Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain SAP systems (S/4HANA, BW/4HANA, ECC on HANA, Solution Manager, Fiori Gateway, PI/PO, GRC as applicable).
• HANA DB Administration: HANA sizing, installation, revision updates, HANA Studio/HDI, tenant management, backups, log retention, encryption, and performance tuning.
• System Performance & Availability: Proactive monitoring (CCMS, SOLMAN, FRUN/Cockpit 2.0), root-cause analysis, memory/CPU optimization, buffer tuning, work-process management.
• Transport & Change Management: Set up and manage CTS/CTS+, ChaRM, retrofit, and transport path governance across Dev/QA/Prod.
• High Availability & DR: Design and manage HANA System Replication, failover testing, cluster tools (e.g., Pacemaker), backup/restore validation, and DR drills.
• Security & Compliance: User/admin role design (SU01, PFCG), SNC/SSO, securebydefault configs, audit readiness (SOX/ISO), kernel/patch governance, and vulnerability remediation.
• Upgrades & Migrations: EHP/SPS updates, S/4HANA conversions, Unicode and OS/DB migrations (SUM/DMO), maintenance planner, stack XML, SUM tool operations.
• Cloud & Automation: Manage SAP in Azure/AWS/GCP (if applicable), including network/storage design, scaling, snapshots; scripting (Shell/Python/PowerShell) and automation for routine ops.
• Housekeeping & Ops: Job scheduling, spool/temse cleanup, archiving coordination, interface monitoring (RFC/IDoc), printer configs.
• Documentation & KT: Create SOPs, runbooks, topology diagrams, and provide knowledge transfer to support teams.
• Collaboration: Partner with SAP functional teams, developers, security, infra/cloud teams, and vendors to deliver stable operations and project outcomes.

Must-Have Skills

• 6?8 years in SAP BASIS with 3+ years focused on HANA.
• Strong hands-on with: 
• SAP HANA administration (installation, tenant mgmt, backups, SR, performance, encryption).
• S/4HANA/BW/4HANA and NetWeaver stack (ABAP/Java).
• SUM/DMO, Maintenance Planner, SWPM, SPAM/SAINT, kernel upgrades.
• High availability (HANA System Replication, cluster mgmt), backup/restore, DR planning.
• Security: SNC/SSO, SSL/TLS, certificates, secure endpoints, user/role administration.
• Transport management (CTS/CTS+, ChaRM) and environment governance.
• Monitoring via Solution Manager and/or FRUN, HANA Cockpit/Studio, EWA/Service Level Reports.
• OS & Linux administration fundamentals, filesystem, networking, and storage concepts.
• Proven experience troubleshooting complex performance and availability issues end-to-end.

Good-to-Have

• Experience with Azure/AWS/GCP for SAP (compute, storage, backup, HA/DR design).
• Automation/scripting (Shell, Python, PowerShell), Ansible/Terraform exposure.
• Experience with Fiori, Web Dispatcher, SAProuter, Gateway.
• Exposure to BW on HANA performance tuning, SDA/SDI.
• Integration with SAML, Azure AD, IAM, and SIEM logging.
• Understanding of SAP license models, sizing (Quick Sizer), and cost optimization in cloud.
• Experience with SAP Focused Run (FRUN).
• Familiarity with GRC, PI/PO, BTP connectivity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor?s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Certifications (Preferred):
• SAP Certified Technology Associate ? SAP HANA (e.g., C_HANATEC).
• SAP Certified Technology Associate ? System Administration (SAP HANA as a database) with SAP NetWeaver/SAP S/4HANA.
• Cloud certifications (Azure/AWS/GCP) for SAP workloads are a plus.

Tools & Technologies

• SAP: HANA Cockpit/Studio, Solution Manager / FRUN, SWPM, SUM/DMO, SPAM/SAINT, Maintenance Planner, SAProuter, Web Dispatcher.
• OS/Infra: Linux (RHEL/SLES), Pacemaker/Corosync, NFS/SAN, Load balancers.
• Monitoring/ITSM: EWA, CCMS, Grafana/Prometheus (nice), ServiceNow/Jira.
• Security: OpenSSL, SSO/SNC, Certificates, SAML/OAuth.
• Scripting: Bash, Python, PowerShell.
• Versioning/DevOps (nice): Git, CI/CD hooks for transports.

Experience Range

• 6?8 years total in SAP BASIS with at least 3 years focused on HANA in production environments.
• Hands-on participation in at least 2 endtoend upgrades or conversions (e.g., ECC to S/4HANA or major SPS upgrades) and 1+ HANA migration (DMO/OS-DB).
